Playing Card Trompe L’oeil Drawing
Author and illustrator Mark Crilley is the creator of Brody’s Ghost, Miki Falls, Akiko and Billy Clikk. He also happens to publish how-to-draw videos on Youtube. Periodically, he features a “Realism Challenge” where he draws a likeness of something directly next to the real object. In the time-lapse example below, he tears a playing card into four squares and then replicates the scene using pencils and paint. Upon completion, his drawing is so realistic that it is difficult to tell which one is the drawing.
